15th Street – Basement

In the 15th house, we have a full size (830 sq ft.) unfinished basement that has some framing and wiring done.  The previous owner used the basement for storage and the washer/dryer.

Our immediate plans upon moving in, are to put the washer/dryer, set up a media room, and use it as storage.  Eventually, we’ll remodel and build an official media room, a master suite with walking closet and full size bath, a large laundry room, and an office/bedroom.  This plan is probably 1-2 years out – all depends on how long we can live in 830 sq ft upstairs and survive with one bathroom  : )

Walls - The walls are concrete which some sides have been sealed and others have not.  Our plan is to clean and seal all of the concrete walls in the next few months.  When we eventually remodel the basement, we’ll frame in, insulate, drywall, texture, and painting the walls.

Floor - The floor is concrete and our long term plan is to seal and stain the concrete, but leaving them concrete with big plush rugs.  We may do this come Spring.

Ceiling – The ceiling is currently open framing and the floor joist from the first flood.  I want to leave it like this long term, but Craig has talked about covering this, we’ll see who wins this one  : )

October 20-21, 2008 - Work Bench Removal

First on the agenda to get the basement ready to move into is to remove the workbench.  It’s a solidly built workbench, but….this is the part of the basement we’ll be using as the media room.  Holly began disassembling the basement and let me tell you that is WAS SOLIDLY built as you can see from the jar of screws that I removed from the bench.
