15th Street – Interior Painting

Of course, you know that Holly has an addiction with painting and….has to paint the entire inside of the house.  Below are the pictures and brief notes on this process.

Left over from painting the condo in Cabo, was an unopened 5 gallon bucket of High Plateau, the same color that we painted the condo.  I love this color and thought, perfect for the 15th house.  So….I brought it back from the Baja with me and painted the living room, dining room, and hallway with this color.

Kitchen – October 7, 2008

The kitchen is pretty small and has white/grey/black tile with black/white/brown flecked counters.  The existing paint on the walls was a high gloss enamel, so I needed to prime it with TSP and then paint two coats of paint.  I attempted once color of paint called Tate Olive and wow…..WAY to 70’s green, so ended up with a color called Promenade.  Love it !  The first two pictures are of the work in progress, the next four pictures are of the finished product but without the appliances.

The next room to tackle on the interior painting is the bathroom.  The bathroom is really small and has blue tile (almost a robin egg blue) which we have been told is original.  We’d like to keep it since it’s original but may eventually pull it out when we remodel to make the bathroom bigger.  Since that could be a year out, I wanted to find a complimentary color for the bathroom.  And…since I love the greem (Prominade) that I used in the kitchen, I’ve decided to use the same color in the bathroom.  We are leaving the molding white and will replace the cabinet sink with a  pedestal sink, so I think it will look nice once it’s all finished.  Also, the mirror and side lights in the bathroom are original, so we are going to be keeping them – they are SO VERY Cool!  As you can see Bailey loves the tile in the bathroom floors, she tends to hang out in there.

The next room on the agenda is our master bedroom.  The walls were already a lighter green shade and it was nice, but we wanted something more fitting of the 1940’s era which was more earthy and darker.  The color used for the master bedroom is called Brown Rabbit.  It reminds me of a soft caramel or toffee color.  LOVE IT!

October 25-27, 2009

We decided to keep the pantry area in the kitchen and not put the door on it that we found in the basement.  The previous owner had ripped out the shelving and had a metal wire rack.  We decided to build shelving and paint.  It turned out pretty cool and we may eventually put the door on it, but we kind of like it open for now.

The last room in the upstairs to paint is the Guest Room/Holly Office.  The initial plan was to WAIT until after we moved in on October 28, however….about 7:00pm on the 27th, decided it would be best to paint it NOW.  So……away Holly went to painting.  As you can tell from one of the pictures, I had a hard time deciding what color to do this room.  I wanted it different, but yet to blend in.  The color I ended picking is called Chai Spice.  I LOVE IT !  A nice burnt orange color.

The room before we moved in, a pale yellow.
